BYE BYE HAPPY MEAL

The board of supervisors in San Fransisco, California voted to ban majority of McDonald's existing Happy Meals and San Fransisco restaurants will be forbidden from offering free toys with meals that exceed certain limits in calories, fat and sugar and do not include fruits or vegetables.

Now from the health stand point yes fast food is bad for you. Massachusetts was named the fourth least obese state in the country. Obesity is reaching epidemic proportions. It’s the plague of the 21st century. Twenty years ago, no state had an obesity rate above 15 percent. Today, more than two out of three states, 38 total, have obesity rates over 25 percent, and just one has a rate lower than 20 percent. Obesity has long been associated with other severe health problems, including diabetes and high blood pressure. Racial and ethnic minority adults, and those with less education or who make less money, continue to have the highest overall obesity rates.there are the financial costs to consider. According to a recent study, being obese costs women an estimated $4,879 a year and men $2,646 due to factors such as having to take more sick days and reduced productivity.

Is this a joke? The government bans on Happy Meals is a shot across the bow of American freedom. They are attacking on parents’ rights, childhood, common sense, and free enterprise. What’s next? Officials are already taxing lemonade stands. What difference does it make if your child is eating a Happy Meal from McDonald's or from some other fast food place. The parents know what their children are putting into there bodies by eating at these establishments. They have that right to eat this greasy and salty food all they want. Just because they banned the Happy Meal at McDonald's doesn't mean people will stop bringing their children there. Address the horrible school lunch programs, and rethink having kids sit in classrooms seven hours each weekday. I feel that kids and adults should be able to eat what ever they want, when ever you want.

  1. Tim,

Good post. The facts that you've selected and the strength of your argument is solid. But can you find any facts that support your personal stance on this issue? Try to find a quote about an author with similar views.

Since all of your facts were used in the opposing viewpoints section, that is the stronger paragraph. Beef up your analysis by finding facts that support you. Otherwise, your article is defeating itself.

The opposing viewpoints article is solid. But it is also a bit unorganized. It starts off with "from a health standpoint, fast food is bad for you. Massachusetts is the 4th healthiest state..." These two sentences don't match up. If the first sentence is your thesis, make sure that all other sentences in that paragraph support that angle.

Overall, it is a good post. Try to incoporate my suggestions in your next post. Your intro was great, your background is awesome, and your writing is strong.

  2. P.s... great pictures. But do they support your analysis?
